Trip to Williamsburg VA

Free Internet Security - WOT Web of Trust

You are going to need at least 3 days for this trip. Williamsburg is what I would call Disneyland for history. You can do it in 2 days, but it will be rushed.

I found a great deal on the internet through the wiliamsburg site. The deal included rooms at the lodge and tickets to the Historic district. I found the site that showed the historic sites ticket to be valued at 30 per adult. It also included 150.00 gift certificate. The catch? The visitor has to spend it in the historic district. That wasn't hard since prices are pretty much double the prices of other stores outside the Williamsburg historic area. Purchas lunch and dinner for two and the 150.00 is almost gone.

I checked at another hotel in the area, while we were out eating one day, I found that the room rates were 60 per night. We were paying 129. Now if you consider the 150 gift and 60 for two adults! Then you are coming out to about 59 per night at the inn, However, that doesn't consider that we could have stretched the money further by eating at other places. Not to mention a wider variety of cuisine.

Wow!! Is their stuff that expensive?

I found the meals to range from 50-80 dollars, depending on the Tavern. Was it worth it? In one case yes. The Christianas Campbell Tavern was great. They went to expense to have an actor come in as a Virginian statesman and walk around engaging people with stories of the king and asking them about their home towns. He was pretty funny.

Another place called the Sheilds Tavern was more authentic as a tavern. However there wasn't much in the way of entertainment, except the hostess checking on guest on her rounds.

Also make note that your tickets give you access to ride the bus. This is something that we missed, but didn't really need it when you are in walking distance. However, it would have been nice to know that I could get to the visitor center in just a few minutes.

Also, you can't visit any of the historic buildings unless you have the ticket that I mentioned. It comes in the form of a Badge that you wear during your visit. I wouldn't be surprised if some were not forged as the only thing they looked for was that you had it on.
